The concept of virtual reality (VR) can be traced back to the 1950s, but the modern version of VR technology as we know it today was first developed in the 1980s. The exact inventor of VR is difficult to identify, as the development of the technology was the result of the work of many people over a period of several decades.

Some key figures who played a role in the development of VR technology include Morton Heilig, who is often credited as the “father of VR” for his work in the 1950s and 1960s on the Sensorama, a machine that aimed to provide users with a fully immersive visual and auditory experience.

Other notable figures in the history of VR include Ivan Sutherland, who is credited with creating the first VR head-mounted display in 1968, and Jaron Lanier, who is credited with popularizing the term “virtual reality” and founding the company VPL Research, which developed some of the earliest VR technology.

Overall, the development of VR technology was the result of the work of many people over a period of several decades.
